Whether we voted for these dread names
Or rail like forever against their endless wrongs and failures
Either way
We designate their names
The names above all other names
The strong man
The first character
The statue above all statues
And the tower to the sky
Go lightly
Unmake the towers
Disperse all you many languages
Don’t seek deliverance from death
Lest ye be trapped numb within the walls of big and disappointing promises
Seek life and love
And know that these days, you’ll find them
Where death and grief roam
Live bravely, in this present, amidst this wounded whole
I hope a world without these is coming
But not by might
Nor by endless management
