the cat of one of the ladies gave birth to four kittens in one of the waiting rooms.

everyone looked at me strange when i ran around the place trying to find a parrot, a dog and three women. when i finally found them they were happy to be put in a taxi to a monastery in the country side, germany had been too crowded and chaotic for them.

when the big bus arrived in Wormer several refugees were not allowed in the facility because they were not white enough to be ukrainian. it was evening, with no public transport or homeless shelters to go to.

my belarusian alter ego, a tall guy in his late twenties working in software development walked in at the beginning of the evening asking if he could help translate. he told me he was so ashamed of his governments involvement in the war.

the coordinator warned us there are now several signals a day of people trying to traffic the refugees. on my first shift i let in some people that were looking for their brother. half an hour later the police ran in looking for them because they didn’t buy their story.

in my break i made the mistake of looking at the news, with the frontpage showing pictures of body bags and graves in marioepol.
