strangers seeking desperately for shelter in our lands had their only resemblance of ‘home’ set on fire and got their last bit of hope bulldozed by armoured police.
europe’s solidarity crisis.

the jungle has changed significantly since evacuation. while walking through the desolate wasteland, i am shocked again by the situation.
will there ever be someone put on trial for this?
-
it’s very difficult to see the eviction zone. deserted, lifeless.
messages are coming in of refugees beginning new camps in the area, starting from scratch with their infrastructure and community.
-
we were moving the shelters from the eviction zone to a location away from the bulldozers.
the destruction workers were guarded by a small army of armoured police standing close by, drawing their guns if we got too close. most of the police wrapped their boots with plastic against the mud.
we carried shelters with about 15ish people making it an easier load. we only moved the houses together with the owner.
guys living in the camp would passionately join us, yelling ‘allah achbar’ and then forcing themselves a spot to help carry the house.
at one point our progress was halted when the riot police moved their line of defense forward, making it harder for the trucks to come in to pick up the home.

and suddenly there it was; an intense moment of deep mutual understanding.
how tragic the fact i will unlikely ever meet the owner of the teal bike.yet i know you’re out there. and i know you understand me like no one else.
